Residential Treatment

What is Residential Treatment?

A Residential Treatment Program for drugs and alcohol, often referred to as inpatient rehabilitation, is a structured and intensive form of addiction treatment that involves individuals residing in a facility dedicated to recovery. These programs are designed to help people struggling with substance abuse or addiction by providing a supportive and supervised environment where they can focus on their recovery journey.

At Anabranch, We Believe Addiction is a Disease. We’re here to help.

Addiction can be treated, managed, and recovery is possible.

What is Addiction?

Addiction, also called substance use disorder (SUD), is often defined as a chronic, relapsing brain disease characterized by compulsive alcohol or drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences.

  • Neurobiological Basis: Research has shown that repeated drug or alcohol use can lead to significant changes in the structure and function of the brain, particularly in areas related to reward, motivation, and decision-making. These changes can make it difficult for individuals to quit or control their substance use.
  • Hereditary Factors: There is a genetic component to addiction, and family history can increase an individual’s susceptibility to developing an addiction. This genetic predisposition suggests that addiction has a biological basis.
  • Psychological and Social Factors: While there are biological aspects to addiction, it is also influenced by psychological and social factors, including trauma, stress, environment, and social support. These factors can contribute to the development and persistence of addiction.

Wondering where to start? Consider Anabranch’s Residential Treatment for Addiction Recovery

Recovering from drug or alcohol addiction is no small task, especially if you’re trying to get sober while balancing work, family, and personal responsibilities. Entering the residential treatment program at Anabranch Recovery Center can provide a solid foundation for lasting sobriety.

Residential treatment typically lasts 30-90 days, depending on individual needs, and is followed by aftercare. Aftercare can take several forms, again depending on the individual: some people do well with weekly therapy appointments and a recovery support group in their local community. Others may benefit from intensive outpatient care, in which they visit the treatment center several times a week to continue with group therapy and relapse prevention training and practice.

Why Residential Treatment for Addiction Recovery?

Residential treatment in Indiana is ideal for treating addiction and shows the best outcomes in terms of lasting sobriety. Because residential treatment requires patients to live at the facility, it removes them from access to substances, thus eliminating the possibility of compromising treatment with further alcohol or drug use. In addition, residential treatment provides patients with the following:

  • An environment that fully supports recovery. Comfortable accommodations, nutritious meals, and a schedule of recovery-related activities keep clients focused on their healing. Residents may have access to nature walks, fishing, equine and animal-assisted therapies, exercise equipment, basketball, volleyball, and other recreational activities. Inpatient treatment removes clients from the triggers that home and work can generate, giving them the space and safety needed to kick-start recovery.
  • 24/7 care from medical and therapeutic professionals. Withdrawal from substances is fraught with challenges. Even when physical detox has passed, the emotional and mental strain of recovery can drive patients to substances for relief. At our residential rehab in Indiana, doctors, nurses, and therapists are on hand around-the-clock to provide clients with the comfort and care they need to feel safe and supported.
  • Mental health assessment. Each of our clients will undergo a full medical and psychiatric assessment before beginning residential treatment. This allows our team to review or diagnose any mental health disorders that may accompany the substance use disorder.
  • Dual diagnosis treatment and medication management. Clients who come to us with mental health complications like depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) receive specialized treatment for co-occurring disorders. Our doctors may recommend medication to help manage the mental health issue, and clients will receive therapy that addresses the mental health and substance use disorders simultaneously.
  • Dedicated time to healing. Recovering from addiction takes time–a lifetime. Residents in our program come to understand that their time with us is just the beginning. By spending a month or more with us, clients build a strong foundation for a long-lasting sobriety. They are given the tools and resources they need to create a life of recovery for themselves when they return home. Most importantly, they start to realize the possibilities that recovery will open up for them. Many of our patients begin their journey with little hope that change is possible. After an inpatient stay with us, they leave with the motivation to keep growing and learning.
  • Friendships with others in the program. Staying at the Anabranch campus gives clients the opportunity to form relationships with their roommates and classmates. In group therapy and recovery meetings, in the gym or outside, and in the dining hall, residents grow to understand and appreciate each other, often forming friendships that can offer sober support for years after treatment ends.

Who is a Good Candidate for Residential Treatment?

We believe that all of our potential clients would benefit from residential treatment, but we also understand that not everyone can commit to an extended stay. That said, certain circumstances will lead us to highly recommend inpatient over outpatient treatment:

  • When the addiction has lasted a long time
  • When the person is using very large amounts of the substance or substances
  • When the person has unsuccessfully tried to quit on their own
  • When the home or local environment does not support recovery efforts
  • When the person is also dealing with a co-occurring mental health disorder

If you’re not sure what type of treatment would work best for yourself or a loved one, contact our admissions counselors. They will listen to your concerns and answer questions without putting any pressure on you. If you decide to take the next step, our medical team will provide a confidential assessment and recommend the treatment plan that best meets your individual needs.

Indiana Residential Rehab: How Does it Work?

Anabranch Recovery’s residential treatment program in Indiana offers a supportive and structured environment for individuals to break free from the cycle of alcohol addiction and work toward long-term sobriety. At Anabranch Recovery, individuals can address their addiction in a comprehensive and supportive environment.

What do we treat? We treat addiction to any substance, but most commonly we see clients struggling with substance use disorders related to  alcohol, heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, meth, prescription opioids and benzodiazepines, and marijuana. We also treat dual diagnosis clients: those with both substance use disorder and a mental health disorder.

Key features of the Indiana residential treatment program:

We offer the following as part of our treatment program.

  • Detoxification
  • Therapy
  • Relapse prevention
  • Aftercare
  • Alumni program

Let’s take a closer look at what each of these elements involves:

Detoxification

Before a person with addiction has the capacity to engage in healing, they must rid their body of the addictive substance. This happens in a process called detoxification, or detox. We offer medically supervised and supported detox for all clients who are at risk of experiencing severe or life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. Our detox unit is a safe place where each person receives compassionate, individualized, 24/7 care as their body weans itself from drugs and/or alcohol.

Therapy

Once detox is complete, the client enters the long-term healing program. Our program heavily relies on various types of therapy as the primary healing modality.

  • Individual therapy – Clients meet with a highly qualified, experienced therapist frequently throughout their inpatient stay. They develop a trusting relationship with the therapist that helps them examine the root causes of their addictive patterns. Our therapists utilize methods from a variety of therapy modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT).
  • Group therapy – Clients meet with a small group of other residents, and, under a therapist’s guidance, address issues related to addiction and how it has affected their relationships, work life, and personal growth. Group work has been shown to be equally effective as individual therapy in helping people overcome addiction. It helps clients see that they are not alone, and that they can lean on each other for support.
  • Family therapy – With the patient’s permission, we invite close family members to participate in their loved one’s recovery by meeting with them for therapy sessions. These sessions are aimed at fostering communication and educating the family about addiction and recovery.
  • Holistic therapy – Holistic therapy helps clients learn to care for their own well-being: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Mindfulness and yoga are two forms of holistic therapy that we teach and promote here at Anabranch. These practices increase self-awareness and foster self-care.

Relapse prevention

One of our primary goals is to help our patients understand how addiction works and how it has affected their lives. This knowledge helps motivate patients to guard against relapse after they return home. Our relapse prevention includes psychoeducation, in which clients learn about how addiction affects them personally as well as how any mental health disorders will complicate recovery. We also teach life skills, like practical ways to keep stress levels low and to manage stress in healthy ways. Clients learn how to communicate their needs and build trust in relationships that have been affected by addiction.

Aftercare

We want to ensure that clients have all the resources they need to continue strong in recovery when they return home. To that end, we might arrange for them to participate in intensive outpatient care or to find a therapist and recovery group in their home community. We also ask clients to download our free CaredFor app. This comprehensive digital platform is designed to enhance the recovery experience by providing access to resources, support, and community connections that are crucial for long-term sobriety.

Alumni program

At Anabranch, we are very proud of our robust alumni program. All of our former patients automatically become part of our alumni group, which gives them the ability to build a network of lasting friendships to make sure that support is always available. Alumni members enjoy free recreational opportunities to gather, have fun, and stay sober.

Tactical Recovery: Residential Rehab for Veterans

For our brothers and sisters who have served, Anabranch offers a dedicated program to meet their unique needs. Developed in collaboration with the national non-profit PsychArmor, a national nonprofit educational organization, Tactical Recovery offers all of the features of our traditional residential program with the added feature of a special support group for Veterans.
